Stubborn characters. *grumbles* Remember that new story I was talking about yesterday that has recently popped into my head? Well, I've discovered that what the story becomes is all dependent on the name of my girl character. If I name her one thing, the story becomes something I'm not sure I want it to become, and she becomes someone I did not intend...of course, that's what characters are all about, right? Telling you who they are and leaving you going 'uh, what?' But if I name her something else, she can remain as I originally conceived her...and avoid a headache of predictability in storytelling.
Of course, if I name her the first name, the one that makes the story become something I'm not sure I want it to become, it gives me a plot. Maybe one that has been written a thousand times a thousand different ways (like...um, all plots? LOL!), but it's a plot to start with, darn it. But at this point, I'm wanting to go for as I originally conceived her, because I think I like it better and it's less cliché. I just have to get her to agree with the name. Darn stubborn characters. Ah, well. I guess I'll see what she decides to become. Once she settles on a name, I will have my four main characters named (unless one of them suddenly protests their names) and then can let the story simmer for a while longer, and then start writing it. (I love writing. I really do. I love the excitement of discovering a new story and seeing how it plays out and falling in love with the characters and yelling at the characters and just the whole journey of getting it to that first messy draft.)
On a non-writing/planning note, it's still so cold outside and we're supposed to get another 2-4 inches of snow today/tonight. It's nothing compared to what some of the country is dealing with, though, with windchills of -50 and feet and feet of snow. O_O_O_O I hope all of you in the US/Canada are staying warm and safe!

In which Saché drowns in wallpaper. So, re: my little update about sanding and painting last Sunday. That ain't nothing compared to last night, when my mom, my aunt, and I were up until 3:00 am wallpapering the whole basement. Technically, they were hanging wallpaper; I was measuring and cutting on my bedroom floor. 3AM was when I finished my part. After that I still needed to take a shower and wash my hair. I'm surprised I didn't drown in the shower from falling asleep.
When I finally did lay down, my arms and legs and lower back were throbbing with exhaustion. I was in one of those weird mental states you only enter through sleep deprivation. It was kind of cool, though. Right before I drifted off I got this random idea to add a pet cat to my Shakespeare's Basement family. His name is Prince Hal. The only question remaining is whether I'll write him into Book One or make him a newcomer in a later book. Probably the latter. I need to start collecting Book Two elements since I'll probably be tackling Book Two for Nano *shudder*
What's more surprising is that I'm here at work today. I totally would have slept in a couple hours (thank you, Lord, for a job with that sort of general flexibility) except it just so happened to be the single most important day of the monthly cycle for me to be in the office. So... one 24 oz. coffee later, here I am.
I didn't get to watch Zach on Letterman last night because with all the construction, my uncle disconnected our antenna plug and has to finish rewiring it. So we don't have TV at the moment. Whoops.
Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Happiness is embodied in a Nerdherder. Zachary Levi is going to be on Letterman tonight.
Hey, guess who's watching Letterman tonight? ;-)
Also, Season Two of Chuck is out on DvD today. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow when we're out near Best Buy for my brother's birthday. I was going to wait, but Tirzah is coming over on Sunday and we're going to have a "Season Two highlight" marathon right up to the premiere at 9:00. These are the ones I'm definitely planning on having her watch. The first three are personal favorites of mine. The last four are the last four eps of the season, and all the ones involving the story arc with Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase.
2x02 Chuck vs. the Seduction (John Larroquette's guest stint in this episode is so hilarious).
2x05 Chuck vs. Tom Sawyer (I can't explain it, but this episode always makes me really happy).
2x10 Chuck vs. the Delorean (this is the one with Sara's dad where they con the sheik and Chuck takes on the persona of "Hans Lictenstein" I don't think Zach has ever made me laugh more than he did in this episode).
2x19 Chuck vs. the Dream Job 2x20 Chuck vs. the First Kill 2x21 Chuck vs. the Colonel 2x22 Chuck vs. the Ring
That's about five hours of Chuck. I doubt we'll have time for more, alas. I avoided the Jill arc in the beginning of the season altogether because while it's important, it's just too many episodes. But in an ideal world wherein we did have time for two or three more, which ones would you guys include?

Plug! Hey there! I know a bunch of you love Disney like I do, and a bunch of you make icons too. I'm in a Disney icontest community disney_awards and we're doing our first LIMS challenge. As I understand it, that stands for "Last Icon Maker Standing," and it's a multiple round contest where one person is essentially voted off the island every round.

The first challenge is the lovely Ariel from The Little Mermaid. It would be a lot more fun if some of my friends were there cheering me on and competing against me. :)

Fake TV spinoff: Law & Order: Chicago In the spinoff of the fake TV meme, freifraufischer assigned me a Law & Order spinoff about Abbie Carmichael as a United States Attorney. (This was very evil of her, but now you'll all know that in the last two years I've become something of a procedural junkie.) Here are the rules:
1. Ask and you shall be assigned an existing tv show to spin off from. I will make every effort to chose one i know you are familiar with. 2. You must use at least two characters from the original show (either from the main cast, or from recurring or guest characters). Original characters are permitted, as is stealing characters from other shows to round out your cast but try to avoid having more crossover characters than from the assigned show. Pictures are recommended but not required. 3. Post the premise and character descriptions in your journal.
So without further ado...

You know you're a writer when... ...you end up with pen marks on your shirts, jeans, and couches.
It's been snowing all day. And off and on for several days. The forecast for the next days calls for snow, snow, snow, snow, and oh, more snow! It's lovely as long as I don't have to go out in it. I stepped outside several times today to take care of things. The coldest bit was when I had to let the guy from the electric department in through the locked gate so he could read the meter. I was afraid for a minute I wouldn't be able to let him in, because the combination lock was almost frozen where I couldn't spin the dial.
Today, I helped the kids plant their seeds, managed to plant my bulbs, and helped the kids make slime. They had great fun playing with it.
I've also finished watching Eureka 7, which had parts I loved, parts that made me go O_o, parts that made me laugh, parts that made me want to throttle characters, but for an anime, it had a very happy ending, even if bits of it were ambiguous. Overall, I enjoyed it. :D I still have two other animes that were recommended to me, and I will eventually get around to watching them when I'm in an anime mood. (Escaflowne still remains my favorite anime to date. Though if Avatar: The Last Airbender was an anime, it would win. But it wins in the cartoon arena.)
So I had a very relaxing, peaceful day. How are you all doing?

Feel rather acomplished today So far today (and by today I mean the past 2 hours), I have:
- Stripped the Christmas Tree - Taken the tree to a X-Mas tree recycling place. *sniff* Bye tree. - Picked up a job app at Jo-Anns - vacuumed up lose pine needles and straightened up the living room - Taken out all the trash and recycling gathering up next to the back door - Finally gotten rid of oil kitty litter.
And since there's absolutely nothing to do on the internet right now, Lego Batman.
(And I <3 this icon so much. It makes me laugh far more than it should. )

Oh, that hard day's work. Today when we got to church the heat was off. They managed to get it going right before service started. But everybody wore their coats for the duration. After that, mom and I came home, ate lunch, took a brief nap, and then got to work on the basement. For the past couple of weeks she's been mudding in the ridges of the faux wood paneling and today we sanded it more or less smooth. There was mud dust everywhere. I'm pretty sure it's still coming out my nose. After that, we took a brief DS9 break and then we put a coat of primer on the mudded and sanded walls. Tomorrow we start with plain wallpaper in order to help smooth over the last of the imperfections before beginning the final paint coats, in some shade of green I can't recall offhand. Something pleasant.
Pleasant, however, is not how my body feels. I am one giant ache.
Still, it feels good to have done something constructive. Literally. This also totally counts as progress on my sewing endeavors because I can't get my sewing stuff back out until this basement is complete.
Back to my job tomorrow. After today, office work will kind of feel like a vacation. LOL

Hehehehe... So, I am in the process of, um... acquiring all seven seasons of West Wing on computer format to hopefully recut my "Smartest People in the World" vid and have backups of certain episodes because my DvDs are riddled with playback problems, not all of which are due to poor disc care. For example, the opening scene of "In This White House", the classic first face-off between Sam and Ainsley, has skipped since the day I bought my copy of Season 2. I mean, how unfair is that?
So anyway, since my acquisition of Seasons 1-4 is almost complete, I couldn't resist sneaking a peak at said scene. It just doesn't get old. Ever. LOL
"Ginger, get the popcorn!"

![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/96549760/1901933) [Link] | The TV meme has been so much fun that some of us have talked about reviving it again in a few months. (For a variety of reasons I'm uninterested in the prospect of a ficathon-style challenge or a Big Bang where you write something based on the premise you came up with. The casting and synopsis were fun and quite enough for me. If I write something based on what I came up with, I won't be posting it publicly, thank you.)
So in the revival category, last night freifraufischer was talking to me about what bugged her in the third season of Eureka and I joked to her that if we revived the meme I was totally giving her a Eureka spinoff. She went and did it anyway.
So, um, apparently there's going to be a L&O spinoff here in the next few days, and you'll all find out the extent of my heretofore closeted procedural geekiness.

That's better. It took about three-fourths of my daylight hours, but I finally am feeling NOT nauseous and not suffering from the urge to sleep. Seriously. That's almost all I did today was sleep. Soundly. I'm grateful that I had the time and means to do so.
So now I can take a belated look at my resolutions from last year and see how I did. Here are all the ones that I accomplished:
Do Community Service - Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Be in the crew of a show - Man of La Mancha in June. Do a cross stitch - Well, I started one... lol Finish revising and posting Heart of a Mother - Check. Edit Book #3 in our series - Check. Write first "Shakespeare's Basement" book for Nanowrimo - A big, resounding "Check"! Go to the Carolinas to visit my grandma and my friends in Anderson - Check.
A lot of things on my list I didn't get done for financial reasons because it took me so long to get a job (paying off my smallest student loan, for example). I didn't finish my fanfics, either. Boo.
And now, this year's resolutions. In no particular order. Some of them are cheating since I know I'll do them no matter what, but they're still important accomplishments, so on the list they go. :-)
( In 2010, I am resolved... )

Happy New Year!! So we rang in New Years with a big drunk bang. We stayed outside at Dennis' house until 5am playing Rock Band, freezing our butts off.
But, and I had to, I made sure that the last song i rocked out to was "Don't Stop Believing."
And I'm running on 4 hours of sleep. Woo.
Happy New Year!

Ugh. This will definitely not go down in history as one of my favorite New Years. Insomuch as the actual evening prior and day are concerned. I spent all of last night having a torrid affair with the toilet. Despite my best efforts, I ended up with the stomach bug that my sister's family was lovingly sharing amongst themselves earlier this week. After much upchucking, I sat very, very still on one of the recliners and mom and I killed three episodes of DS9.
I think I'm past the worst of it now, but my stomach is still feeling a little bit unfriendly towards the idea of consuming anything, even water, which I sip on every now and again just because I'm pretty darn thirsty. The fact that the house is full of the smell of saurkraut and pork is NOT helping, nor is the fact that Bob is standing on my doorstep, coat, hat, and suitcase in hand.
I wish you all the best (nausea-free) holiday, though!

Zach love. Well, I had a great time watching my adorkable Zachary Levi in Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Squeakquel. His character even had a great little moment to sing! Granted, it was very nervous, layman singing, not the well-practiced pipes I know he's hiding from the larger world, but it was still the cutest moment of the movie (for me, of course. I'm horrifically biased).
I also got a chance to talk to a great mom sitting next to me with her daughter. We were talking about how awesome The Princess and the Frog was, and so of course I told her about Rapunzel coming up and Zach's involvement. When they showed his name in the credits at the end, I cheered and she laughed.
Since getting home I have shoveled the driveway, cleaned out my bureau and reorganized it, and pulled all my summer skirts out of the closet to make a little more breathing room. Turns out I have quite a lot more summer skirts than I do winter skirts.
Still on the agenda for this lovely last day of the year: unload the dishwasher, finish all my laundry, and clean scour the downstairs bathroom, including probably washing off the white baseboards with ammonia. They tend to showcase dust more proudly than, you know, more sane-colored baseboards.

2009 in review: Fanvids ( Saché's 2009 Fanvids )

I am not going to do the fanfic meme this year. Why? Because with the exception of a couple of chapters in Ben/Sabé saga, I didn't write any fanfic. How weird is that?
